FALL 2020 & WINTER 2021 SCHEDULE

posted Aug 13, 2020, 9:13 PM

The Glengarry SC schedule for Fall 2020 & Winter 2021 is now posted on the website:
This scheduled times may need to tweak a bit based on ice time alterations from the City of Penticton and other user groups. We would expect the session layout to remain the same.

Please bear in mind that we are working through an everchanging environment. Covid-19 protocols from both Skate Canada BC/YK and the City of Penticton are fluid, and we are making adjustments as we continue to move forward. Our most current Covid-19 documents can be found on the main page of the GSC website.

Our registration for each session will be limited this season, and there will be no make-up classes or drop-in classes offered as per our current guidelines. Registration numbers can be found on the schedule. Our QuickStart 2020 schedule for Sept 9-20, 2020 will follow shortly and also be posted on the website. We will have registration open by September 1, 2020. If it opens sooner than that, we will post on Facebook and send out an email to let everyone know.

Thank you. We look forward to seeing many of you back again come September.

SUMMER 2020

posted Jul 3, 2020, 7:59 AM

We would like to welcome you and your skater back to the Glengarry SC Summer 2020 skating season.  Things are going to look a bit different, and we're all making adjustments and learning through this period.  Please be patient.  If you see or hear of something that concerns you, please bring it to us and we'll be happy to take a look.

We are basing our Summer 2020 season around three documents that are posted on the main page of the GSC website:

- GSC Return-to-Play Guidelines

- Skate Canada BC/YK Return-to-Play for Figure Skating Guidelines

- City of Penticton McLaren Park Arena User Group Guidelines

Some items of note included in these documents, and needed information for you:

- Masks (face coverings) are to be worn for all skaters, coaches, volunteers, and parents while in McLaren Park Arena, other that while on the ice surface itself.  We are asking all participants to provide their own face mask, and either dispose of it or wash it on a daily basis.  Glengarry will supply masks for those who have forgotten for the day.

- The only entrance door is to be the Lobby door, on the west side of building.

- Every skater and parent/guardian MUST sign a waiver before your skater will be allowed to participate.  (The waiver is attached to this email, and can also be found on the main page of the GSC website.  You can bring it to your first session, or scan and email me a signed copy.)

- Exit doors will the south end of McLaren Park Arena, near the GSC office.

- All participants will go through a verbal Covid-19 screening each day before they enter the building for their session.

- All dryland session will be conducted outside, unless there is heavy rain.  That means your skater will be outside in the sun, light rain, and smoke (hopefully not).  Please have them prepared for this.

- The dressing room doors must remain propped open.  This means if your skater needs to change, they will need to pop behind the curtain in each room, or head to the restrooms.

- Parents will not be allowed inside the rink.  If they need help to tie their skates, you will need to do so outside, either on the benches, or in your car.

- The GSC lockers will be unavailable to skaters for Summer 2020.

- Please have your skater bring with them on a daily basis - water bottle, exercise mat, medium size towel (for dryland training purposes), gloves, guards, face mask.

- All food and drink (other than water) will need to be consumed outside of McLaren Park Arena.

We're looking forward to getting back to work, and feeling the ice again.

If you have questions, please get in touch.

SUMMER 2020

posted Jun 15, 2020, 7:51 AM

Below is the link to our Summer 2020 schedule.  You'll notice that there is no Star Academy or CanPowerSkate, which are programs that have run during our summer programming in the past.  Skate Canada has directed all skating clubs/schools to suspend these programs until further notice.

https://glengarryfsc.uplifterinc.com/pages/Schedules/

Registration will open shortly for Summer 2020.  Everyone will receive an email, and we will post on Facebook to let you know.

Now is also time to check your skater's equipment!  Get their skates our and check if they fit.  We've been off the ice for 3 months at this point.  Please don't leave it until the first day of skating to find out that skates are too small.  If your skates are too small, please contact Mr B to arrange a fitting and order, or contact Dave at Blade Runner.

Thanks for bearing with us while we sort through our plan.

SUMMER 2020 RESTART

posted Jun 12, 2020, 7:41 AM

We are pleased to confirm that we have secured ice for our Summer 2020 skating season! Things will look and run a little different when we resume, but we want to get the preliminary information our to our skating clan so you can plan ahead as best as possible:

Glengarry SC Summer 2020 (McLaren Park Arena)
July 6 - August 28 (Monday - Friday)
Test Day; Fri, Aug 28
Primary StarSkate (A); 7:30am-9:30am
Int/Sr StarSkate & CompetitiveSkate (A); 8:20am-10:45am
Primary StarSkate (B); 9:45am-11:45am
Int/Sr StarSkate & CompetitiveSkate (B); 10:35am-1:00pm
(CanPowerSkate sessions are on hold)

Sessions are currently limited to only 8 skaters on each, so we will be doing a staggered registration, where you can sign your skater up for one session each week (either A or B), and then if there is still space 48 hours later you will be able to secure the 2nd session. Registration will open in a couple of days. We'll send out email notification and post on Facebook to let you know when.

Do we still have i's to dot and t's to cross? Yup, we sure do. We want to be sure we're opening in the best manner possible to ensure the well-being of our skaters, parents, coaches, and facility operators. We'll be working with the City of Penticton to get our club organized, and keep the flow in McLaren smooth.

We hope you and your family are doing well. We're looking forward to seeing you all in the very near future.

CANSKATE ICE SHOW INFORMATION

posted Jan 9, 2020, 8:54 PM

Dear Canskate Parents,

You are receiving this letter because your child has been registered with Glengarry Figure Skating Club this year.  Every year Glengarry holds an Ice Show.  The purpose of the Ice Show is to allow skaters to showcase their skills and share their love of skating with their community.   There is no cost to Canskaters.

This year the ice show will be ‘Alice’ and follows the stories from ‘Alice in Wonderland’.  All Canskaters (including PreCanSkaters) are encouraged to participate as it is a fun event for all skaters.  There are some mandatory dates to keep in mind that require commitment to attend:

  • January 31, 2020 – sign up deadline to participate

  • March 2 or 3, 2020 – 5:00-7:00 pm picture night

-your skater will need to come to McLaren Arena at the designated date and time that will be emailed to your once your child has been assigned to a group.  On the picture night, you will need to register and be given the costume.  They will need their helmet and skates, but will not be going onto the ice.  Removal of cage of helmet for pictures is recommended.  Cage should be reinstalled for ice use.  They will need to stay for group and individual pictures.

  • March 30- April 8th 2020 - practice

-there will be two practices on separate nights in the week and a half before the show.  The dates and times will be determined shortly and sent out in an email.  Practices will be held at the Okanagan Hockey School and Training Center ice (853 Eckhardt Ave West).  They will need their helmet and skates and will be on ice for practices.  Your skater must attend these practices in order to participate.

  • April 8th, 2020 – dress rehearsal

-skaters will need to be at the South Okanagan Events Center (853 Eckhardt Ave West) from approximately 5:30 – 7:15 pm.  A parent/guardian needs to remain at the arena and are encouraged to watch the dress rehearsal if they wish.  Skaters will need their helmet and skates and will be on ice.  Parents are NOT allowed back stage to be with their child UNLESS they are part of the volunteer backstage team. If you are anxious about your child’s ability to be left with a group of children without your assistance, please be sure to sign up as a volunteer.

  • April 11, 2019- show night

-skaters will need to be there at 5:15 and can be picked up after the show.  A parent/guardian needs to remain at the arena. Skaters will need their helmet and skates and will be on ice. Parents are NOT allowed back stage to be with their child UNLESS they are part of the volunteer backstage team. If you are anxious about your child’s ability to be left with a group of children without your assistance, please be sure to sign up as a volunteer.

Volunteering- parents are asked to volunteer for the Ice Show to make it a success.  The show cannot happen without the support of volunteers.  Parents are encouraged to go to the Glengarry Figure Skating Club website to look at available positions.  Link to Volunteer sign up- Ice Show.  Positions that are needed ASAP are the Dressing Room Attendants.  If possible, we would like these positions filled by March 2nd so that children can be assigned to a volunteer on picture night.  Things to keep in mind:  the volunteer is needed for both the dress rehearsal and show night and no parent will be permitted back stage unless they are part of the volunteer team.

Sincerely,

Christine Davidson,

Glengarry Skating Club- Ice Parade Chair
